About me

I was born in Manhattan, New York City, and attended the Brearley School until the beginning of high school. When I was 14, my family moved to South Korea, and I completed all four years of high school at Korea International School.

I have gone on to study as an undergraduate at the University of California, Santa Barbara, as a BioPsychology major. After completing my undergraduate degree, I plan on attending medical school.

Mental health advocacy has always been a passion of mine. As someone who has struggled with my mental health, having to figure out medications and routines that work for me, it has been imperative to me to be candid about my battles with mental illness. I hope to be an example of how people can live a “normal” life with different mental illnesses and go beyond and surpass “regular” expectations.

I hope to one day teach other adolescents that they do not have to feel as if they have to “settle” just because of their diagnoses and struggles. Instead, I want to inspire them to be excited about their potential in life. I want to show them that they can do so much more than they ever thought with the right help and medication when necessary, regardless of stereotypes that come with different mental illnesses.

To prepare myself for doing so, I have been working to educate adolescents of multiple age groups in STEM-related courses. Through volunteering to teach them directly and building the lessons they follow, I have learned how to get kids of various ages excited about different topics and more confident in their ability to achieve what they want, regardless of their backgrounds.

Artistic expression has also been precious to me over the years. I have always enjoyed the creativity that came with the limitless mediums. Although much of my art is merely indulging the curious and creative elements of my mind, it has also become an outlet where I illustrate how I have felt throughout my journey with my mental health. I hope that some of my pieces resonate with others who struggle with similar battles and even make them feel more comforted, knowing they are not the only ones fighting their battles.
